The Sea Spray Inn has been in continuous service as an inn, bed & breakfast or boarding house since it was built in 1872. Originally built as a boarding house, the house had 10 rooms on each of the guest floors with one bathroom at the end of the hall. Re-configured in the 1980′s by previous owners, the second floor has 3 guest rooms and the third floor has 4 guest rooms – all with private bathrooms.
After 20+ years working in the financial sector in NYC, Eric (an IT professional) and Mary Ellen (a management consultant to the financial services industry) decided to take a chance and do something different.
Accounting for our enjoyment of the seashore, entertaining, and Mary Ellen’s love of baking and cooking – along with Eric’s diminishing eyesight due to Retinitis Pigmentosa – we decided to find a new career by starting our own small business.

Inspiration wasn’t long in coming as we stumbled upon a couple of B&Bs for sale along the Jersey Shore. Several B&B searches and several months later, we threw caution to the wind and purchased The Sea Spray Inn in March of 2010.
Breakfast is a treat at The Sea Spray Inn. Many guests skip lunch after savoring the generous breakfast!
Seasonal fresh fruit is served daily – sometimes with a little mint from the garden mixed in. Mary Ellen’s homemade crumb cake is also available daily. During the summer months, blueberry and peach versions often grace the table, too. In addition, there is always a different muffin, bread or scone served with breakfast. Some of the inn favorites include blueberry lemon muffins, coconut banana bread with a lime glaze, scones in many different flavors, and an assortment of biscotti.
The daily hot dish alternates between egg-based creations and carb-based delights. Omelets, individual soufflés, egg bakes and highly seasoned scrambled eggs with garden herbs are guest favorites. Our other hot dishes include a fantastic orange-scented French toast, light-as-air buttermilk pancakes (with or without blueberries), and waffles made special for the season served with fresh Vermont pure maple syrup direct from the Stewart Family Farm in Cuttingsville, VT.
Yogurt and homemade granola are always available for guests who want something lighter or an alternative to the daily dish. In addition, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available with advance notice.
For all you coffee lovers, we think you’ll be happy. We have worked with the Barbaric Bean Coffee Roasters on Main Avenue to develop the “Sea Spray Blend”. Our coffee is hand roasted in small batches and we grind the beans just prior to making coffee so that you can savor many cups of our strong, yet smooth blend. You can also buy it by the pound in town to take home a bit of breakfast with you.
Take Exit 100B on the Garden State Parkway South.
Follow Route 33 East for approximately 4 miles.
Keep going straight. Cross the railroad tracks and cross over Main Avenue/ Route 71 to enter into Ocean Grove on Broadway.
Go about 0.5 miles up Broadway and The Sea Spray Inn will be on the left, one block from the beach.
